Cloud Nothings - “Stay Useless” - Attack on Memory (2012)

dear everyone who spent a significant portion of their teenage years jumping on beds while listening to music involving lots of loud guitars and skinny boys yelling about feelings, i recommend listening to this album.

And in the life of the Tortoise the drone is the first sound. It lasts forever and cannot have begun but is taken up again from time to time until it lasts forever as continuous sound in Dream Houses where many musicians and students will live and execute a musical work. Dream Houses will allow music which, after a year, ten years, a hundred years or more of constant sound, would not only be a real living organism with a life and tradition all its own but one with a capacity to propel itself by its own momentum. This music may play without stopping for thousands of years, just as the Tortoise has continued for millions of years past, and perhaps only after the Tortoise has again continued for as many million years as all of the tortoises in the past will it be able to sleep and dream of the next order of tortoises to come and of ancient tigers with black fur and omens the 189/98 whirlwind in the Ancestral Lake Region only now that our species has had this much time to hear music that has lasted so long because we have just come out of a long quiet period and we are Just remembering how long sounds can last and only now becoming civilized enough again that we want to hear sounds continuously.

My Bloody Valentine are reissuing Loveless with a previously unreleased version of the record mastered from original analog tapes— on May 7. And that’s not all they’re reissuing…

Six Organs of Admittance - “Hold but Let Go” - Asleep on the Floodplain (2011)

my favorite track from the new album.

A bit worried that this is going to be one in a series.

Yes.

“A student by the name of Bartholomäus Traubeck created a project entitled YEARS for the specific purpose of converting thin tree rings into music. He did this by using a Playstation Eye Camera, which read and converted the wood grain into music. This information was fed into a laptop running Abelton Live and the musical output is something directly out of a horror film. So, next time you’re walking alone in the woods, think of this music and savor the chills running up and down your spine as you realize that trees, were they able to sing, would terrify you.” - A Tree’s Age Rings Converted Into Music Sounds Like a Horror Score

Oskar Fischinger - Circles (1933)

Fischenger imagined what music would look like.

He produced a series of abstract Studies that were synchronized to popular and classical music and screened at theatres with a tail credit advertising the record, thus making them, in a sense, the very first music videos.
